The UCD School of Public Health initiative has been ongoing for over a year. A public health planning committee was formed in 2005 and consists of various experts on campus and numerous external advisors including county and state health officials. This committee has looked into the status of California's public health infrastructure and has developed a formal plan for the project accordingly. In order to be approved, the proposal to establish the school of public health must be accepted at different bodies on and off campus, ending at the University of California Office of the President. It is expected that this process will take two years time.
