The proposed UC Davis School of Public Health is well situated for the cross-disciplinary approach that is needed to face the public health problems of the future.
UC Davis is the only campus in the University of California system to house the five major professional schools:
The UC Davis campus is also located approximately 15 miles from the state capital and headquarters of the California Department of Health Services and the future California Department of Public Health. Opportunities for training in several state agencies are critical to meeting the public health school’s mission of preparing individuals to serve as practitioners, researchers, and teachers in local, state, national and international settings. A public health practicum experience is a requirement of our MPH degree, and the opportunity to receive practical experience in the many non-profit, state and local government agencies in the greater Sacramento region is a significant advantage.
"The collaboration of the California Department of Health Services with the proposed school would benefit the population of California and help address many of the difficult issues facing our state."
- Mark Horton, California State Public Health Officer
